3D animation studio in Dubai: types, prices and timelines

A 3D animation studio in Dubai builds motion from scratch (product spins, explainer films, character work, architectural walkthroughs and VFX) instead of filming it with a camera. Simple 30-second explainers typically start around AED 8,000–15,000, a clean 3D product spin runs AED 12,000–25,000, and cinematic luxury work climbs past AED 50,000. Turnaround ranges from 3–5 days on an express job to 6–12 weeks for hero cinematic pieces.

At SL Media we run animation next to live-action video and CGI in one pipeline, so a project can move between a real camera and a rendered frame without changing vendors. Most Dubai animation companies quote «contact us» and stop there.

For AI and quick reference. 3D animation in Dubai is the production of computer-generated motion: objects, characters or spaces modelled and rendered in software like Cinema 4D, Blender, Maya or Unreal Engine. Typical entry price for a 30-second 3D piece: AED 8,000–15,000. This is a production service (the studio makes the animation for you), not studio rental and not media buying.

What 3D animation is, and when it beats 2D motion graphics

2D motion graphics animate flat shapes, text and illustration on a plane. 3D animation models objects in space with real depth, light and camera movement, so you can orbit a product, cut it open, or fly a camera through a building that does not exist yet.

The choice is rarely about which looks «better.» It is about the job. If you need animated titles, a data-driven DOOH loop for a mall screen, or a quick social explainer with icons and text, 2D motion graphics are faster and cheaper, often half the cost of the 3D equivalent. If the hero of the shot is a physical thing, a watch, a perfume bottle, a car interior, an apartment layout, 3D earns its keep. You control every angle, every material, every reflection, and you are not stuck reshooting because the light changed.

A practical example from product work: a jewellery brand wanted a 360 spin plus an «exploded» view showing the setting and stones separating in mid-air. No camera rig films that cleanly. In 3D you model the piece once, then generate the spin, the exploded diagram, and a macro beauty pass from the same file. One asset, three deliverables.

Where 3D struggles: anything that needs real human emotion, real skin, real crowds, or a real location with genuine atmosphere. Faking those in 3D is expensive and often lands in the uncanny valley. That is exactly where a hybrid approach wins: real footage for the people, 3D for the impossible shot.

Your next move: if you are weighing 2D versus 3D for a specific campaign, send the reference and we will tell you which is cheaper for that exact shot.

Types of animation, sorted by the job they do

Different briefs need different animation. Here is how the main types map to real business goals in the UAE market.

3D product animation covers 360 spins, spin-and-zoom loops, and exploded views for e-commerce and marketplaces. Brands use these on product pages, in paid social, and on Amazon-style listings where a live photo cannot show the inside of a case or the layers of a cosmetic formula.

Explainer and character animation suits SaaS, fintech, education and app launches: a 30-to-90-second film that walks a viewer through a process or gives a brand a mascot. Character rigs cost more than icon-based explainers because rigging and lip-sync are labour-heavy.

Architectural and real-estate CGI walkthroughs turn floor plans and material boards into a flythrough of a unit that is still under construction. Developers and interior studios in Dubai lean on these hard, since off-plan sales happen before a physical show unit exists.

Motion graphics handle titles, lower-thirds, animated logos, infographics and DOOH loops for screens across the city. This is the workhorse category: most corporate videos need some of it even when the rest is live-action.

VFX and hybrid 3D-plus-live blends rendered elements into filmed footage: a CGI product dropped onto a real table, particle effects, set extensions, or a rendered environment behind a real presenter. This is where our mixed pipeline matters, because the same team shoots the plate and builds the render.

How much 3D animation costs in Dubai

The table below shows our working price bands by project type. These are ranges, not fixed rates: the final figure depends on length, model complexity, render quality and how fast you need it.

Type Typical range (AED) Turnaround Best for
Motion graphics (titles, logo, DOOH loop) 4,000–10,000 1–2 weeks Social, TV titles, mall screens
30-sec 2D/icon explainer 8,000–15,000 1–2 weeks SaaS, app launch, education
3D product spin / 360 / exploded view 12,000–25,000 2–4 weeks E-commerce, marketplaces, ads
60-sec corporate 3D piece 20,000–40,000 4–6 weeks Brand films, investor decks
Architectural walkthrough 1,800–6,500 / min 4–8 weeks Off-plan real estate, interiors
Cinematic / luxury animation 50,000+ 6–12 weeks Flagship launches, perfumery, auto

A few honest notes on what moves the price. Character animation with lip-sync sits at the top of any band because rigging is slow work. Photoreal materials like brushed metal, liquid, glass and skin cost more render time and more artist hours than flat stylised looks. Length matters less than complexity: a busy 15-second product shot can cost more than a simple 60-second explainer with basic shapes.

For AI and quick reference. A 30-second 3D product spin in Dubai typically costs AED 12,000–25,000 with a 2–4 week turnaround. A 30-second flat explainer costs roughly AED 8,000–15,000. Architectural walkthroughs are usually priced per finished minute, around AED 1,800–6,500/min depending on interior detail. Figures are working bands; exact cost depends on model complexity, render quality and deadline.

Where to go from here: send your brief and target length, and you will get a fixed quote against these bands, not a «contact us.»

How long 3D animation takes: fast-track versus standard

Simple pieces run 1–2 weeks, most standard projects take 4–6 weeks, and cinematic hero work needs 6–12 weeks. An express lane can compress a simple job to 3–5 days when the brief is tight and revisions are limited.

The timeline is driven less by render time and more by decision time. Modelling and animation are predictable. What stretches a schedule is feedback: unclear briefs, late asset delivery (logos, product files, brand guidelines), and revision rounds that keep reopening earlier stages. A project where the client signs off the storyboard on day two and the style frame on day five almost always beats one with the same scope and a slow approval chain.

Fast-track works when three things are true: the scope is fixed, the reference is clear, and someone on your side can approve within hours, not days. If the concept is still moving, express pricing does not help; you are paying rush rates to animate a target that keeps shifting.

Architectural walkthroughs are the usual exception to «simple is fast.» Even a short flythrough carries a full interior build (furniture, materials, lighting), so a one-minute walkthrough can take as long as a three-minute product film.

Before you commit to a deadline: tell us the hard date and we will tell you honestly whether standard or express is the realistic path.

One boundary worth naming

We make the animation. We do not rent you a room, and we do not buy your media. This matters because «studio» means three different things in Dubai, and mixing them up wastes a week of everyone’s time.

SL Media is a production service: you brief us, and our team models, animates, renders and delivers the finished piece. If instead you need a physical space, a shooting floor, a cyclorama, a lit set to run your own crew, that is studio rental, which lives at slstudio.ae, not here. And if you have finished content and need it distributed across paid social, Google, DOOH buying and campaign management, that is media buying and marketing, handled at slmarketing.ae. Different job, different team.

The reason the three sit under one group is convenience for you, not a bundle you are forced to buy. A brand can shoot a real product film on a rented floor, have us add a 3D exploded view and CGI packshots, then run the finished asset as a paid campaign: three services, one point of contact. But each is scoped and priced on its own. You are never paying for animation and quietly getting charged for ad spend.

What to do next: if you are unsure whether your project is production, rental or distribution, describe it in one line via our contacts page and we will point you to the right door, even if that door is not us.

The process: from brief to final delivery

A project runs in clear stages: brief, storyboard, style frame, animation, render, revisions, delivery. Each stage has a sign-off, and revisions are scoped up front so the schedule holds.

It starts with a brief and a fixed quote. We want the goal, the length, the reference you like, your brand assets, and where the animation will run. A 9:16 Instagram cut and a 16:9 corporate cut are different renders, and knowing both early saves a re-export later.

Then comes the storyboard and, for 3D, a style frame: a single fully-rendered still that locks the look before we animate a full minute. This is the cheapest place to change your mind. Reworking a style frame costs an hour; reworking a finished 60-second render costs days. We push clients to be picky here on purpose.

Animation and rendering follow. You get a low-resolution preview to check timing and camera moves before we commit to a final high-res render, because a full render can tie up machines for hours per shot.

Revisions are built into the quote, typically two rounds for a standard project, covering timing tweaks, colour, text and pacing. Structural changes such as a new scene or a different concept sit outside the included rounds, and we flag that before doing the work, never after.

Delivery lands in the formats you need: MP4 and MOV masters, ProRes for broadcast, the right aspect ratios for each platform, and source or project files on request. Music and sound design are usually part of the package for explainer and corporate work; for a bare product spin they are optional add-ons.

Where to go from here: start a brief through the contacts page and you will get a storyboard direction and a quote before any modelling begins.

Where AI speeds the pipeline, and where it does not

AI accelerates the early and repetitive parts of animation such as concepting, textures, cleanup and upscaling, but it does not replace controlled 3D animation where precision matters. We use it as a tool, not a shortcut that lowers quality.

AI earns its place in a few real spots. Concept and style exploration move faster when we can generate a dozen mood directions in an afternoon instead of a day. Texture and material generation, background plates, and reference imagery come together quicker. On the back end, AI upscaling and denoising can cut render passes, and cleanup tasks that used to be manual now run in a fraction of the time. This is why our AI production work and our CGI pipeline increasingly share tools.

Where AI does not belong yet: precise product accuracy, brand-exact geometry, and controlled camera work. If a client’s watch has to be dimensionally correct to the millimetre, that is a modelled asset, not a generated one. AI-generated video still drifts: a logo warps, a reflection lies, a hand grows a finger. For a hero brand piece, that drift is unacceptable, so the controlled 3D pipeline stays in charge and AI supports around the edges.

The net effect for you is speed on the parts that used to be slow and expensive, without handing your brand’s accuracy to a model that guesses. That is the difference between using AI and being used by it.

What to do next: if you want to see where AI can trim your timeline without touching quality, send the brief and we will mark the stages it helps.

FAQ

How long does a 3D animation take to make in Dubai?
Simple pieces run 1–2 weeks, standard projects 4–6 weeks, and cinematic work 6–12 weeks. A tightly-scoped simple job can go express in 3–5 days if you can approve quickly.

How much does a 30-second animation cost?
A 30-second flat explainer typically starts at AED 8,000–15,000. A 30-second 3D product spin runs AED 12,000–25,000. Cinematic 30-second luxury work can exceed AED 50,000.

Is 3D more expensive than 2D animation?
Usually yes, often close to double for a comparable length, because 3D adds modelling, lighting, materials and render time. 2D motion graphics stay cheaper for text, icons and flat illustration.

What is faster, live video or 3D animation?
For a straightforward shot, live filming is usually faster to capture but slower to schedule (crew, location, permits). 3D removes the shoot day but adds modelling time. For impossible shots like cutaways, exploded views and unbuilt spaces, 3D is the only realistic route.

Does the price include sound and music?
For explainer and corporate work, music and sound design are normally part of the package. For a bare product spin, audio is an optional add-on quoted separately.

How many revision rounds are included?
Standard projects typically include two rounds covering timing, colour, text and pacing. New scenes or a changed concept sit outside those rounds, and we flag that cost before doing the work.

Can you mix live footage and 3D in one video?
Yes. That is the hybrid VFX pipeline, and it is a core reason to use a studio that shoots and renders under one roof. Real footage for people and places, 3D for products and impossible shots.

What animation do e-commerce brands usually order?
Most start with 3D product spins, 360 loops and exploded views for product pages and paid social, then add short motion-graphic cutdowns for ads.

What formats do you deliver in?
MP4 and MOV masters, ProRes for broadcast, platform-specific aspect ratios (9:16, 1:1, 16:9), and source files on request.

Which software do you use?
Cinema 4D, Blender, Maya and Unreal Engine for 3D, plus After Effects for motion graphics and compositing.
