What a clothes shoot covers
Four formats do most of the work, and brands usually mix them inside one session:
- Flat lay, with the garment styled flat and shot top-down. Fast per SKU, and it reads well in a mobile catalogue grid.
- Ghost mannequin, shot on a mannequin and then composited so the mannequin disappears while the garment keeps its shape and hollow neckline. Most marketplace listings expect this format.
- On-hanger, which is quick and honest and fine for basics where silhouette is not the selling point.
- On-model: real body, real drape, real fit. This is what converts on your own store and in a lookbook.
We also shoot fabric and hardware macro: weave, stitching, zips, buttons, lining. Those frames answer the question a buyer asks right before paying, which is what this thing is actually made of.
How the shoot runs
- Brief. You send the SKU list, the references you like, and where the images will live: your own store, Noon, Amazon, Instagram. Requirements differ between them, and knowing on day zero is cheaper than re-exporting later.
- Prep. Garments come to the studio, get steamed, pinned and sorted into shooting order by colour and silhouette. This step is boring and it saves hours on set.
- Shoot. Light is built once per group of items, not rebuilt per item. Capture is tethered, so you approve frames on a monitor while the set is still standing.
- Post. Colour matched against the physical garment, background cleaned, ghost mannequin composited, exports built to each platform spec.
- Delivery. Files named by SKU, in the crops and sizes you asked for.
If the campaign needs a location instead of a studio wall, whether that is a villa, a rooftop or a desert set, we produce that as well. The same crew travels.
Who books this
Fashion labels preparing a season drop. E-commerce stores that need a hundred SKUs to look like they came from one brand rather than five freelancers. Marketplace sellers whose listings keep bouncing on image spec. Showrooms and distributors building a wholesale catalogue. Agencies that need a production partner rather than a photographer for the day.
Why SL Media
Our own studio sits in Dubai Investment Park 2, and the crew that shoots is the crew that styles and retouches. You are not coordinating a photographer, a stylist and a retoucher across three calendars and three invoices.
We run the same pipeline for fashion clients including Fabiana Filippi and TatianaTretyak, and we can extend it with CGI and AI production when a garment needs a set that does not exist in Dubai. Work samples live at vimeo.com/slsdxb.
Campaign and lookbook frames with models on set are produced in our fashion photoshoot studio. Related: photo production, fashion photography, e-commerce photography, CGI production. If you want the format comparison in depth first, read flat lay, ghost mannequin or on-model.
