What happens before the camera is switched on
A fashion film is mostly decided in prep. By the time a crew is standing on set, the expensive choices have already been made, and the shoot day is the cheapest place to discover you disagree with one of them.
- Reference and tone. Not a folder of pretty images, but a decision about pace, colour, grain, camera movement and how the clothes are meant to feel in motion. Two brands can shoot the same rail and end up with films that share nothing.
- The look sheet. Every outfit numbered, in shooting order, with the accessories that belong to it. This one document keeps a day on schedule more reliably than anything else in prep.
- Casting to the clothes. Samples come in a size, and the cast has to fit them properly. A model who nearly fits shows up in every frame as a pinned back and a clamped waist.
- Location and light. Where the location sits at the hour you plan to be there. Dubai's midday sun flattens fabric; the hour after sunrise and the hour before sunset do the opposite.
- The shot list per look. Full-length movement, detail on the fabric and the finish, the walk, the turn, and whatever the collection is actually about. Improvised days produce beautiful footage that will not cut together.
Preparing the collection itself
Send the pieces earlier than feels necessary. Garments arriving on the morning of the shoot arrive creased, and steaming a rail while a cast and crew wait is the most avoidable delay in fashion production.
What we need from you: the samples in the sizes the cast was booked to, accessories and shoes that belong to each look rather than a general box, spares of anything pale or delicate that a day of wear will mark, and the look sheet so the styling team is not reverse-engineering your intent. If a piece is a one-off from the atelier and cannot be replaced, tell us before it goes on a model, and it will be handled accordingly on set.
Shooting outside the studio in Dubai
Our studio in Dubai Investments Park 2 covers controlled work: cyclorama, styled sets, lighting that repeats exactly the same way tomorrow. Plenty of fashion needs the opposite, and Dubai gives you desert, coastline, architecture and a city that photographs well at both ends of the day.
That comes with a permit process rather than a spontaneous drive out. Commercial filming in public areas of Dubai is licensed through the Dubai Film and TV Commission, and the application has to be filed by a UAE-licensed production company on the brand's behalf. Private venues — boutiques, hotels, villas, malls — work through a no-objection letter from whoever owns or manages the property, on their terms and their timeline. Anything aerial needs its own separate permit, not an amendment to the first one. We file the applications as the production company on the file; what we need from you is the commissioning letter and the cast and crew documents early in prep, because that is the piece that slips when it is left to the week of the shoot.
Rights that decide whether the film can still run next season
Two documents quietly determine the shelf life of a fashion film. The model release defines where a face may appear and for how long, and a release written for social media does not cover a billboard or a retail screen. The music licence is bought for a territory and a term, and the inexpensive route usually turns out to be licensed for everything except paid advertising.
Both go into the quote as written terms rather than assumptions. When the campaign gets extended into a second season, that becomes a renewal conversation instead of a reshoot.
Who books us, and why SL Media
Designers shooting a first collection who need the campaign film, the lookbook motion and the social cuts out of one week. Established labels refreshing a season on a calendar that does not move. Modest wear and abaya brands, where drape and movement carry the whole film and a static image cannot. Multi-brand retailers who need every label in the store to look like it belongs there. Agencies buying a production partner with a studio and a crew rather than a director with a rented camera. Fashion work in our portfolio includes Fabiana Filippi and TatianaTretyak.
Crew, studio, editors, colourist and CGI team are one in-house operation in Dubai, so nobody hands a drive to a stranger halfway through post. When a set cannot be built in the time available, or a collection needs an environment that does not exist here, our CGI production and AI production teams build it.
